Incoming 9th grade Information

The families of 9th Graders coming into the SVHS Soccer program typically have a lot of questions about dates, schedules and the overall operation of the soccer program.  Please use this website as a resource whenever possible.  Here are some quick answers to FAQs we frequently are asked.

Try Out Information

Try outs for the Frosh/Soph and Junior Varsity player pool, which all Freshmen interested in participating in the program are required to attend, will take place on August 22nd and August 28th, from 6pm to 8pm in the SVHS Stadium.  A list of all student-athletes that have registered interest in attending tryouts will be posted on this website in the tryouts page on this website.  If your name is not present, please email Coach Woods at so that your name can be added to the list.

Academic Eligibility

Your eligibility for soccer season will be evaluated at end of the academic first quarter.  In order to be academically eligible to play soccer, student-athletes must meet the following requirements:

  1. The student athlete must have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or better
  2. The student athlete must not have more than a single grade of "F" across their course load
  3. The student athlete must not have more than a single citizenship mark of "U" across their course load

These rules are mandated by the CIF, high school sports' governing body, and there are no exceptions to these rules.

Athletic Eligibility

In order to be able to participate in practices at the beginning of the season, each student athlete must complete the academic clearance process.  That process has four major pieces that require completion:

  1. ASB Sticker - To be purchased in the ASB office.
  2. Physical - Completed by a doctor and the physical form submitted to the Athletics office in ASB
  3. Registration and Electronic Signatures at
    • Concussion Form
    • Sudden Cardiac Arrest Form
    • SVUSD Waiver
    • CIF Code of Ethics
  4. Confirmation Form from
    • Must be signed and submitted to the Athletics office in ASB

It is critically important that this has been taken care of prior to the first day of practice.  Failure to do so will require the coaching staff to hold the student-athlete out of practice and that absence from practice will be considered unexcused.
